Sep 4, 2018Following the dissolution of the National Parliament by the President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste on January 26, 2018, an early parliamentary election was held on May 12, 2018. In order to assess the accessibility of this election to persons with disabilities, Ra’es Hadomi Timor Oan (RHTO), supported by the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), and the United Nations Development Programme’s Leveraging Electoral Assistance for Regionalized Nation-Building project (UNDP LEARN), monitored the political campaign period and election day activities to assess the access of persons with disabilities to the electoral process. The support from IFES was funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), while the support from UNDP LEARN project was funded by the Government of Japan and the Government of the Republic of Korea.

Jul 1, 2018With the generous support of the governments of Japan and Korea, UNDP, in close collaboration with the Public Defender’s Office, has been able to provide extrajudicial legal aid services in the name of the Access to Justice Clinics in the pilot judicial districts, Baucau and Suai. This special edition, dedicated to the AJCs, presents an overview of the processes of its establishment, performance, and results.

Jun 14, 2018This final report summarizes the progress and results of the project “Strengthening rule of law by supporting the establishment of Access to Justice Clinics (AJCs) in Timor-Leste (hereafter ‘the project’),” generously supported by the Government of Japan. The project was approved in March 2016 with the amount of USD 300,000 and implemented by the Justice System Programme (JSP) of UNDP TimorLeste.

Jun 9, 2018The UNDP project entitled Leveraging Electoral Assistance for Regionalized Nation-Building (LEARN), funded by the Government of Japan and Korea, builds on the achievements of previous UNDP electoral assistance projects and aims to provide technical assistance to Timorese Electoral Management Bodies (EMBs) throughout the entire electoral cycle, with a strong focus on civic and voter education, taking into account support already provided to Suco (village) elections in 2016 and Presidential and Parliamentary elections in 2017.

May 28, 2018The President of the Court of Appeal (Tribunal de Recurso)- H.E. Deolindo dos Santos on 28 May 2018 validated and proclaimed the final results of the 2018 Parliamentary Elections. The results were declared valid after the provisional national results were submitted by CNE the previous week.
