Local communities were happy to see the gathering of the political factions

On the 18 July 2017 UNDP organized a peace march in Baucau in cooperation with the National Police of Timor-Leste, Municipal Government, civil society organizations and people from Baucau.

Promoting the key message ‘’Together we can ensure stability, tranquility and peace to achieve the goal of national unity during the 2017 parliamentary elections’’, hundreds of citizens gathered and participated in the march through the streets of Baucau.

Attendees included representatives of 14 political parties, youth, veterans, civil security officers, the fire brigade, community leaders, church representatives, students and members of the PNTL, the Defence Forces of Timor-Leste (FFDTL), municipal government and the Justice and Peace Commission.

This event provided a good opportunity to unite civil society in Bacau to support and uphold the vision of non-violence and unity to achieve national development and democracy of Timor-Leste.

At the end of the march, the participants had a photo together with different political factions standing side by side. The key message again repeated during the last gathering and local communities were happy to see the gathering of the political factions.
