Council of Minister Analyzes the Initial National Communication on Climate Change
Dili – 24 June 2014, the Council of Ministers introduced the Initial National Communication on Climate Change for analysis as part of its ratification of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in October 2006 and the Kyoto Protocol on the UNFCCC in October 2008. UNDP is helping Timor-Leste fulfill its commitments and obligations under the UNFCCC.
The Initial National Communication includes recommendations that reflect a careful study on the climate change situation in Timor-Leste, which, as the Prime Minister refers on the foreword of the document, “serve as key instruments to develop adaptation and mitigation strategies, being also a mechanism that allows the opening to political dialogue and raises public awareness on climate change''.
As a least-developed country, the INC will help Timor-Leste build its institutional, scientific, technical, informational and human capacity, facilitating the country’s implementation of the Convention.
