    UNDP Goodwill Ambassador HRH Crown Prince Haakon of Norway’s Visit to Timor-Leste

    UNDP Goodwill Ambassador for MDGs, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, visited Timor-Leste on the 5th to the 7th of February 2015. His Royal Highness congratulated the leadership and people of Timor-Leste on the progress achieved on the Millennium Development Goals, and emphasized that UNDP stands ready to support the government in overcoming the remaining challenges and building on what is already accomplished.

    International Volunteer Day 2014 celebrated in Timor-Leste

    As representatives of future hopes, more than 100 Timorese young people gathered at Largo, Lecidere on 5 December 2014 to celebrate the International Volunteer Day (IVD). Every year on this date, national and international volunteer involving organizations, government partners, and volunteers come together to celebrate this special day of volunteerism through various activities and campaign on specific theme. The global theme for the 2014 IVD was “Make change happened, volunteer”. It recognized and celebrated volunteerism, with a special focus on honoring people’s participation in making a difference at all levels: locally, nationally and globally.

    UNDP Assistant Administrator Haoliang Xu Returns to Timor-Leste

    Mr. Haoliang Xu, Assistant Administrator and Director of the Regional Bureau for Asia and Pacific for the United Nations Development Programme, will visit Timor-Leste from 8 to 12 July, 2014.     New GoTL, UNDP and UNCDF programme focuses on decentralization and local development for poverty reduction

    The Government of Timor-Leste, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) today endorsed a new programme of cooperation which is designed to contribute towards poverty reduction and local development. Known as the Sub-National Governance and Development Programme (2014-2018) (SNGDP) the programme will strengthen institutions for decentralised governance, improve participation, and enhance local capacities to deliver services, particularly to the most vulnerable groups in poor communities.

    GoTL and UNDP Sign Cost-Sharing Agreement to Support for Deconcentration

    Dili, 14 March, 2014 – The Government of Timor-Leste and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) today signed an agreement that will provide Government funding to UNDP for support of the country’s Administrative Pre-Deconcentration. The US$750,000 cost-sharing agreement increases resources available to support UNDP’s existing and planned work in strengthening sub-national governance and follows the promulgation of Decree Law No. 4/2014 mandating the establishment of a strong, democratic, and efficient local governance system.
