Youth Voter Seminar to National University of Timor-Leste

Dili, 15/03/2022 – 101 university students attended a UNDP Youth Voter Seminar for the Presidential Election 2022, lectured by CNE and the University of Waseda, in Japan.

On March 15th, the UNDP COVID-Resilient Elections in Timor-Leste (CORE-TL) project hosted a “Joven Vota (Youth Voting) Seminar” at Timor Plaza. The target of the seminar is the first-time voters, at the age of 16-24, to increase their knowledge on the electoral process and raise awareness of participation of youth/ women/ people with disabilities in the upcoming Presidential Election, scheduled on March 19th. At the seminar, 101 university students (incl. 20 people with disabilities) from the departments of Communication and Inclusion at the National University of Timor-Leste received a lecture from CNE, and an online lecture from the University of Waseda, in Japan.

Importance of free and fair election for democracy and youth participation were emphasized as “Timor-Leste obtains the high democracy index score. The youth must keep it with your power.” stated by Prof. Yamada from the University of Waseda, in Japan.

“Digital transformation lets us rethink of how an organization uses technology, people and processes to generate value. Digital transformation can apply to Timor-Leste’s elections to overcome our challenges.” addressed by CNE Digital Transformation Specialist Mr. Paulo Amaral.

The UNDP CORE-TL project promotes the COVID-safe, informative and inclusive elections at national and municipality levels. The project is funded by USD 4 million from the Government of Japan, and USD 360 thousand from the Government of Timor-Leste.
