"I am sure that KJFL can help my dream become reality”, said Julio with strong confidence

Knua Juventude Fila-Liman (KJFL) is a unique place to help young people learn and discover their potential. Today, I have my own registered architecture business” Julio Fernandes said.

Julio Fernandes, born in Uatucarbau in 1990, is feeling grateful as he finalizes his business plan and obtains his ‘Kanfuru Architect Unip.Lda’ business license from SERVE.  “I am very passionate about Architecture’s work. When I was in Thailand, I read and followed KJFL work through social media. Then, I visited KJFL and talked to Young Business Trainers and Volunteers. Setting up my business was made easier with free internet connection. I challenged myself and started my architecture business. I am sure that KJFL can help my dream become reality”, said Julio with strong confidence.

A graduate from Assumption University with his Bachelor of Architecture in Thailand, Julio has voluntarily supported the center with poster designs for event promotions. He also attended trainings and information sessions and built networks at KJFL.

The Junior Architect confessed that “It’s not easy to start a business because you need a good plan, management knowledge and commitment to start. Many university graduates become unemployed after graduation because they do not have a good plan –  they hope to get a job with the government or companies,” Julio stated. He realizes that the education system in Timor-Leste must be evaluated and put more focus on student’s creativity to become business owners and job creators, not job seekers.

After receiving his Business License, Julio says that his dream is taking shape. “For me, KJFL is unique because it’s the only center in Timor-Leste that I saw young professionals helping other youth to do business in the real world,” Julio said. “I am extremely amazed because I created my own job.” Julio is thankful for the support offered by KJFL and today his business is progressing on track, and for him, this is a positive step.

Julio is a graduate from Fatumaca Vocational Training School (STM), Baucau in 2008. He calls for young Timorese not to depend on Government support but keep improving their creativity and work smart to achieve new steps. “UNDP Knua Juventude Fila-Liman (KJFL) is a unique place to help young people, learn and discover their potential to create jobs. Today, I have my own registered architecture business” Julio Fernandes said.
